Bogerd Martin moves away from physical digital media discs towards protected online service CT Secure

15 January 2026

Following the decision by the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) to withdraw digital media discs for maritime publications, Bogerd Martin proposes CT Secure as a more efficient, secure and sustainable alternative for exchanging chart updates, permits and routes between ship and shore.

In July 2024, ADMIRALTY announced the withdrawal of its digital media discs. In December 2026, production and distribution will officially come to an end. This decision aligns with the wider maritime sector’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact and lowering its carbon footprint.

Digital downloads have long outperformed physical carriers as the most efficient and sustainable way to receive updates. They reduce manual work for operators on board, eliminate the logistical burden of producing, shipping and storing physical media, and allow vessel operators to download only the required base data and chart updates, reducing both time and cost.

CT Secure is a compact, pre‑configured plug-and-play device that connects directly to a vessel’s ECDIS and allows ships to retrieve ENC and AIO data securely and efficiently. It includes a built‑in firewall and additional tracking capabilities as a backup to the vessel’s AIS/GPS, giving operators greater control and resilience for navigational and operational data.

Paired with Bogerd Martin’s PAYS (Pay As You Sail) licensing, CT Secure allows vessels to receive updates while only paying for the charts they actually use. The solution integrates seamlessly with other Chart Track products, creating a complete, modern navigation data ecosystem without reliance on physical discs.

With the withdrawal of digital media discs scheduled for December 2026, Bogerd Martin is working closely with shipowners, managers and operators to ensure a smooth and timely transition from disc‑based workflows to secure digital delivery with CT Secure.
